Sex and Poetry….

Poetry is more sensual that some may understand. I can say that good original poetry by someone I am interested in could probably get me out of my pants (LOL). No not really, but truthfully being able to write good poetry is a gift, and shows the artistic side of an individual. Great poets are not just people like Maya Angelou, but are also people like Jay Z, Mos Def, Nas, and the average person sitting at home right now.

Poetry allows us to show and express a part of us that otherwise may lay dormant and unknown because we just don’t know how to express that massive ability. To me poetry is a combination of subconscious thoughts. I know as a writer, I enjoy writing not only poetry but other things also, such as short stories, blogs and so forth. Anyway, when I write poems I feel as though I am sharing a part of me that no one knows, and I am able relieve stress and frustration that has been pent up and petrified to let loose. I know some things may sound repetitive, but the more you think about it the more you see that sharing and writing poetry is a wonderful part of life, that is eluded because we don’t want to face the truth or reality some times.

When it comes to the relation between sex and poetry, it is extremely simple. For women to know a man could show a softer side of him, a more passionate piece of who he is, they know that that man is not afraid to show his real self…. That is simply said, and it is definitely true. For a man to see that a woman has more intellect and isn’t filled with materialistic ways, and isn’t an idiot then they know they have an intellectual being in their presence and not just some piece of ass. Honestly, I am attracted to a man not for the money, or just what he is able to do for me, but more for what he is capable of, and if he could hold a conversation and be intelligent aside from sports knowledge. I like life knowledge, passion, desire, sensuality, wits, and feminine qualities.

I have seen some very powerful poems in my life some written by Maya Angelou, one of my favorite poets and others written by people whose names most do not know, but should. You be the judge and say whether or not the individual I am about to introduce to you is an intellectual or not. Trust me when I tell you, I don’t mingle with otherwise…lol.

This young man originates from Decatur, IL. He went to college; he left college and is working to take care of his responsibilities, and is a good person inside and out. If you have never met someone who is responsible, reliable, intelligent and funny – you have never met Justin Oldham. Check him out on Myspace at www.myspace.com/jaiway.

Hoetry

By Jai O.

Since the majority of
You niggas ain’t into
Expression, more concerned
With a woman undressing
What ever happened
To Poetry???
All I see now is hoetry.
Just saying what goes
Over well with hoes.
Can’t even speak from
Your soul for trying
To dig in her hole.
Hoping 2 quote her
Some slick shit.
In attempts for a
Quick fix, just so
You can pull out a dick.
Using that deep soft voice
To get her spot moist.
I swear you niggas
Will never change.
Understand you don’t
Write poetry it’s just
Plain hoetry...
First you undress her
With a few words
To get some off of
Something she
Hopefully ain’t heard.
Stop acting like a bird
Use more than your pecker
Do you really think..?
Talk of spending cheese
Will get you more
Than just a rat?
And still you go on
About blowing her back.
Any true woman can
And will see you an act.
I swear niggas never change
You don’t write poetry.
Just recite weak hoetry
I'm just about spent
On misused and abused
Explicit content.
If you think telling
About what you can do
Will land you a screw.
What does that really
Say about you??
If it’s about bed
There is no sleep.
About going out
It’s on a creep.
Nigga open your eyes
It’s more to downtown
Than some legs & thighs.
Try to cook her dinner
Without her being dessert.
Maybe take a picture
Of her with clothes on.
An every time you call
Don’t try to phone bone.
Stop abusing the art
Just for a nut.
There is more to life
Than finding a slut.
Start writing poetry
Stop using hoetry.

The After Effects..........
By: Jai O.
Ms. Guided
I fell for this lady...
Followed Her fully…
As she led me down.
This path of lies
To me to give Her
The world and that...
She would not take my tries
She took showers in my cries...
Grabbed my hand...Then
Said let me be.....
Your guide.
Did not want Her feet wet
So I laid down my pride
All For This Lady...
This Ms. Guided
She told me to take Her
So I did.....
To whole nother High
Made me drunk with Her eyes
In my ear She sighed...
I will show you Heaven
Just don’t look to the sky
No She said....
It rests in my thighs...
Give me your soul...
And you can go...
You don’t even have to die
I fell for this lady
She was all mine...
My Ms. Guided
Told me I move too slow
That She would leave me behind
So I ran....
Nose open eyes blind.
She said what was yours
Now is all mine....
What I have hid She would find...
I fell for this lady
My Ms. Guided

What are the Top 11 Reasons College Student Drop Out?

According to some these are the top 11 Reasons why College Student dropped out!!!!!!
Whether this is true or no, is unknown to me, but for those that have dropped out of college, how does this pertain to you?
1. Homesickness and feeling that you don’t fit in. It’s a whole new world out there, and you may not be ready to embrace it.
2. Educational burnout. While college gives you control and flexibility over your schedule, the hard demanding schedule, challenging courses, and boatload of homework certainly has turned a lot of students away from the desire to continue.
3. Academic unpreparedness. Sometimes, high school didn’t really prepare students for college. Other times, students slacked off in high school and paid the price during their post-secondary years. The high school goal was to pass (so that students could get into college); in college, it is to succeed.
4. Personal or family issues. You may have had an unfortunate illness in the family or you yourself just got totally get stressed out from the workload.
5. Financial constraints. Tuition costs continue to soar, and scholarships or grants are not always available. Additionally, financial situations can change from year to year.
6. Too much fun — but not enough education. Some students take advantage of their friendships, which could put them on academic probation due to suffering grades or absence in classes.
7. The school isn’t a good academic fit for the student. You’ve selected a great school that is very arts-centric. However, you realize that you like the sciences better. Similarly, you may hate the average class size of 100 and prefer much smaller classes for more individualized attention.
8. Setting sights on the wrong major. You may have wanted to be a doctor but after taking several science classes, you decided that you’re rather go into marketing. Does your school have an marketing major? If not, you’re likely to go elsewhere.
9. No guidance or mentors. In high school, teachers and counselors were there to guide you, as high school classes are typically smaller than the entering freshman class. It’s a lot harder to get the personalized attention that you’ve been used to and that could turn people off quickly.
10. External demands, particularly within part time or full time employment. Can we say Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook? When the job puts too many demands on you, you may have to choose, and money usually wins out.
11. Time to move out. If the cold winter just doesn’t suit you, you may decide to go elsewhere. You may want to go closer to home or to be closer to a significant other.

The End of the Semester Blues!!!!!!

See one thing is for sure all college students are happy that the semester is coming to an end, but what about those students that haven’t don so well!?!? Although it has been a truly great semester for me, I have heard people I know say all too many times that they are failing a class, and desperately want to drop a course. Well, what do they do in cases such as these, when they are trying hard not to affect their GPA?

First off, I don’t know what the school would suggest for them to do, but I know what I wouldn’t do in a case like this. I wouldn’t drop out for sure, because we will have our bad and good semesters. I wouldn’t take more then one extremely difficult class at a time, and I would try to take classes that I enjoy as well as those that are necessary; the point of electives. As someone that allowed her advisor to tell her to drop the semester, I would definitely not rely on one suggestion, even if it is from someone who is supposed to be helping you; unfortunately a job is just a job to some, and your well being is of no real concern!

See if you could work it out, ask your advisor (if worthy), or see another advisor and have them tally up your anticipated grades and see what your GPA for the semester may be. That way you can see if it would hurt you really bad, or if you would have the opportunity to salvage your GPA in the upcoming semester. Sometimes we freak out unnecessarily, and we are not rational when our heads are turning in every which direction. Now, this is coming from someone who has been there and done that. I have had the advisor that told me to quit and now I have the advisor that has my best interest at heart. So before you give up, and take the worst way out, whether it be dropping the class or dropping out – remember that for every person that will screw you over there are two people who won’t!!!!!!!

Classic.......

Have you sat and listened to those songs or watched those videos of songs that you can't but say "Dam* I remember this song" to. Well I haven't much to say about them, except that fact that they are all classic songs, whether they date from 2006 back to 1975. This is not the average editorial, it is more or less a collaboration of songs that should remind you of songs that you may or may not have grown up with. They are however, definitely songs that you have heard one time or another. Have Fun!!!!!

Why Do Black Women Nag So Much!!!!

See, you probably thought that I was about to complain about the fact that Black women have so many issues, but it is quite the contrary. This is strictly an editorial and is not to be taken as a consensus. Black women complain and nag they way they do, most of the time because of the men. What a lot of people fail to understand is that a Black woman is quicker to stick by her significant other, through thick and thin. She will still be there when he cheats, when he lies, when he needs a break, and during the good times too. You say, hey so what is the point of nagging!

A woman is only a woman, and we take in more then men do when it comes to our homes. We are the ones who tend to the home, we hardly get recognition, and we still do it day after dreary day. You have some men who will pamper his woman to any extinct, but they are a rare commodity. Yes, I said rare, because they are, most want their cake and eat it too. I think people get it misconstrued about a Black woman and her nagging.

See when we nag it is always out of love, regardless of how we display it. We believe in foundation and substance, and we want our homes, our men to do the best they can, because it benefits them as a whole. If you pay attention to what we are fussing about, it would be clear that we have nothing but his best intentions at heart. Black women go through a lot, especially when it comes to our men wanting something else, and by that I do mean a white woman.

Crystal Long said, "My boyfriend and I have been together for at least 5 years, and during that time we have had our share of problems, and around 2 years ago he cheated on me with a white girl. I believe we argued, and fought for weeks, but at the end of it all, I knew I loved him, I knew he was the one for me because the one thing that I hate the most, is what he did and I was still there". Black women do these things, they stick around even when they have been hurt drastically, and for Crystal that was it for her, but she fussed, she fought and she is still there 2 years later.

W are the backbone, we are the queens, and no matter what anyone says, we are stronger and that is why relationships last, and that is also why they fail. You have some Black women who are not what I am describing, just the same as we have plenty of good men out there, but at the end of the day we are still going to be categorized at strong. In any relationship it takes two to make it succeed, and not succumb to the hard times, and temptation. I can sit hear and talk about why we nag, but there are different solutions to every situation.

Just think about it, we lived so long behind the face of others, isn't it time to appreciate what we have and who we are.

A Little Bit of R Kelly....

Some things that can be said about Robert Kelly is that he has much potential, which is the reason why he is as successful as he is, and growing. Although he has had situations that have sent him into court time after time, he manages to remain one of the greatest R&B artist/producers out there.

We have heard hit after hit, baby making song after baby making song from Kell's some such as Bump and Grind, Half on a Baby, Same Girl, I Believe I can Fly, Ignition, You remind me, and so many more.

NOKEY... THE ONE AND ONLY....

One thing that can be said is that persistence pays off. Straight from the hood of Chicago, IL, Nokey has went the distance in making a name for himself. As a child he lost his mother to the world of drugs, and his father was merely just a momentary influence, for Nokey had to find himself in other elements of life.
Learning at a young age that he was talented at drawing, playing basketball, and evening tackling football, Nokey grew to have many accomplishments under his belt. However, of those many talents Nokey was able to find truth in basketball, where he went on to be captain of his high school team, Sullivan on the Northside of Chicago. His skills in dunking and ball handling allowed him a range of popularity, and took him on to play basketball in college, receiving a scholarship.
Amongst his talents and passions, Nokey also enjoyed all aspects of music, and the industry. It was in college and after the death of his brother in 2000, that Nokey went full throttle with his music aspirations. He began working on his career as a producer and artist and has not looked back. He continues to do nothing but move forward. After distributing his first CD's featuring songs like "If You Were My Baby," and "Fake Fucks," Nokey went on to bigger and better things, joining the CTE family.

From there he has coordinated and produced videos such as "Corporate Thuggin," "I Love My Nigga,""I Ain't Inna That," and much more. Being focused and goal oriented gets you to extremes that you never want to come down from, and that is where this Chicago native, ATL reformed, music tycoon has made it to. The name NOKEY will be infamous, and will be at the top of his game.

Autism and other Learning Disabilities are Curable

Thesis: Learning Begins at Home

Introduction:

Attention Getter: Can you picture yourself graduating from college, going on to be successful and looking back on your life? You think about all the things and people that played a factor in you being the individual that you’ve become. A coach, a best friend, and grandparent, a mentor, a parent! Or you think about when you have children and decide what role to play in their lives. These are not attributes we think about before hand, but or parents do. This is why learning begins at home.

[VISUAL AID displays attention getter family slide]

Thesis and Preview: Today I hope to show you why learning begins at home. First, I will talk about brain growth. Then, I will discuss a parents’ role in their child’s life, and lastly I will talk about some learning disabilities that can be prevented or short lived with parent participation.

Body:

I. First we need to understand brain growth.
A. The development of the brain in the beginning years.
1. A young brain houses billions of nerve cells that are necessary in life. (www.healthtoday.net)
2. Between the ages of 3 to 6 the most rapid growth takes place in frontal- lobe areas involved in planning and organizing new actions, and in maintaining attention to tasks. (washingtonpost.com)
B. It is good to realize that you either use it or lose it!
1. After puberty the growth rate declines rapidly.
2. The teenage years are very important. This is when it is a very critical time to optimize the brain. (washingtonpost.com)

[VISUAL AID displays brain slide]

Transition:
This is why a parents’ role is essential in their child’s life.

II. Parents are their children’s first teachers.
A. A young child is very observant.
1. Children know when to cry due to the reactions they get, particularly from parents. (healthtoday.net)
2. Children recognize letter distinctions. They are able to associate the letter B with words such as Banana due to how it sounds.(healthtoday.net)

[VISUAL AID displays a child in first year slide]

B. A child’s environment is very powerful in their development.
1. Being a positive influence assists children in adapting to situations and learning how to deal with life and people.
2. Rewarding a child for good behavior plays part in how they decipher from right and wrong.

[VIDUAL AID displays child at age six slide]

Transition: This is why a caring parent is a good parent and a knowledgeable one also.

III. As parents it is great to know what our children are up against.
A. Many teens go through school with learning disabilities and parents don’t know.

[VISUAL AID displays statistics graph slide]

1. “50% of all students in special education in public schools have learning disabilities, 2.25 million children.” (aspeneducation.com 2005)
2. Without effective intervention the teens work below their actual abilities, from frustration.

B. There are different types of learning disabilities that parents’ can help their children through.
1. Some terms associated with learning disabilities are Dyslexia a reading disability; Dysgraphia a writing disability; Dyscalculia a math disability and speech impairment which affects the growth of the child’s speech. (aspeneducation.com 2005)
2. Autism is a variable developmental disorder that appears by age three and is characterized by impairment of the ability to form normal social relationships, by impairment of the ability to communicate with others, and by stereotyped behavior patterns; which children who have it get stuck and fall between the gaps of the school system because parents don’t know it is curable. (merriam-webster.com/dictionary/autism)

[VISUAL AID displays two autistic children slide]

Conclusion:

Review: Learning begins at home. Today I barely scratched the surface of the development of the brain, why parent’s involvement in their children’s lives are important, and what challenges children are up against, but it doesn’t have to end with me.

Final Comment: As your classmate I know you understand what I have explained. Whether you are a parent, someone who had that “perfect” childhood, with the supportive parents, or that student who often wished their parents had a clue. As a child I know what my parents tried to do for and instill into me. As a parent I know first hand how important children are. As a parent of a child with a learning disability I know how essential it is to help our children, my children, your children, our children.

BARACK OBAMA OR HILARY CINTON

This is something that unfortunately, I don't know what to say. I am one of those people who feel that Obama would make an excellent president, but I also feel the same about Hilary Clinton. I do wonder though would Obama live to finish a term if elected, due to the excessive hate that continues to endow or society. I also feel that a African American man or woman for that matter should not decide against something simply because of the risks that are associated, make a stand. When it comes to Clinton, I feel that she is a replica of a man, and she can and would get the job done correctly as well, but would she be able to withstand the pressure as a woman in office.
I do feel that when it comes to deciding who may be best, that is something that becomes a moral decision..... YOU DECIDE!!!!!

The Concept of the Jena 6 and Freedom Writer's

Some may say why am I comparing The Freedom Writer's to Jena Six. I say because they fought for the same cause, but in different aspects of their lives. No matter what form it comes in, justice is justice. The Freedom Writers went through a lot to get the respect that they now have, whether they are White, Black or Hispanic. As a society it seem very inappropriate that we still live as a segregated people. We live according to class and race, and we judge each other based on that, instead of looking at people as individuals, for what they bring to the table. We don't except each other as easily even if it was Black on Black. To dispose of how minorities get treated by other races, we have to start with ourselves, with our school systems, in our homes.
We see with these young boys from Jena, Louisiana that racism is still a very skeptical part of all of our lives. In the 50's and 60's Martin Luther King fought drastically for his people, and when he fought for his people it was not just for his African American brethren, but for for us as a whole. A lot of people misinterpret the cause of what our grandparents and so forth endured years ago, because there is this lackadaisical mentality that we carry.
The Jena 6 incident not only has allowed young people, but us as a people open up our eyes and see that they don't care who they hurt as long as they hurt us. Segregation and racism never ceased to exist, it just learned to exist in a different manor. Some may say that especially with the new light shining on the situation that we are nothing but an inch away of resorting back to ways that minorities strive so hard to get away from, but unfortunately this time around it wouldn't be so easy.

With all of the bi-racial couples and the beautiful children that sprout from it, you would think that some people would just get over it. With all of the minorities that are making names for themselves, the tycoons, you would think that racists would let it go, but when you have people who grew up in the Martin Luther King era, or were raised by one who was it is difficult to stray from such thoughts when that is what they are taught.
I live in the United States, I am an American and as many people have seen with the stand that has been taken for the Jena Six, it is evident that we are a people, whether it is liked or not. Martin Luther King died, but his concept did not, and for as long as it is necessary, the fight for justice, the fight for freedom, the fight to propriety will continue.

ABC ON THE RISE

The American Broadcasting Company, better known as ABC has made its mark in television by the bold decisions it make. Decisions such as when they decided to move Grey's Anatomy from Sunday nights to Thursday nights, and came out victorious, as Grey's Anatomy has continued to pull high ratings and is currently the show to beat at 8pm on Thursday nights. Since DISNEY purchased ABC for $19 billion dollars in 1995, it has done nothing but continue to rise in the television industry.

ABC is responsible for hit shows such as Taxi, Mork and Mindy, and Happy Days, but more modernly it is responsible for hit shows such as Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Brother's and Sister's, Men in Trees, Dancing with the Stars, Ugly Betty, and many more. Over the years ABC has hit high revenues of $29 million in 1975 up to as much as $165 million in 1977.
ABC continues to flourish because the network takes risks. Yes there is a possibility that a program may not succeed in ratings as they may like, but with the reinvention and and determination that the network has displayed, it is expected that they will continue to flourish and be profitable in many years to come.
